  10.         INSTALLING A DRIVER FOR WINDOWS 3

  12.         1)   Make  sure you have installed Windows 3 on your  hard  disk.
  13.              If  you do not have a proper Windows 3  directory,   install
  14.              one  by running SETUP from the Windows package.  Select  VGA
  15.              as your type of Display.
  16.  
  17.         2)   Run VDRIVER on Disk #1.  All high resolution display drivers
  18.              will  be  transferred to the sub-directory  SYSTEM  of  your
  19.              Windows directory.
  20.  
  21.         3)   In  DOS,  go to your Windows 3 directory on the  hard  disk.
  22.              Run  SETUP  again.  Select `Other' for  `type  of  Display'.
  23.              When  asked  for the `display driver disk  provided  by  the
  24.              hardware manufcturer' or `OEM Display Driver Disk',  correct
  25.              the default drive and path prompted by SETUP to:

  27.                   SYSTEM

  29.              Then  select your desired resolution.  SETUP may ask  for  a
  30.              `Windows Disk' with an incorrect path prompted.  Correct  it
  31.              to  an appropriate path or floppy disk drive where you  will
  32.              insert the expected `Windows Disk'.

  35.         SPECIAL NOTE FOR 800x600 256 COLOR WINDOWS 3 DRIVER
  36.  
  37.         There are two 800x600 256 color drivers:
  38.          1)  WIN3-63B.DRV  for  those display adapters  equipped  with  a
  39.              minimum of 512K RAM.
  40.          2)  WIN3-63C.DRV for those display adapters with 1MB RAM.   This
  41.              driver does NOT work on any cards with less than 1MB RAM.

  44.         SPECIAL NOTE FOR 32768 COLOR WINDOWS 3 DRIVER
  45.  
  46.         Some Windows application programs attempt to determine the number
  47.         of  colors  available  on the display by  enquiring  the  display
  48.         driver.  The 32768 color driver naturally gives the answer 32768,
  49.         which  unfortunately  is interpreted as a  negative  quantity  by
  50.         certain  application  programs,  resulting in odd colors  on  the
  51.         screen.  Here is a list of these programs:

  53.           o  WINDOWS PAINTBRUSH
  54.              The  PALETTE appears as shades in black and white.  For  the
  55.              colors to reappear,  follow this sequence:
  56.                        Go to Options menu
  57.                        Select Image Attributes
  58.                        Change setting to Colors

  65.           o  TETRIS
  66.              The screen appears in black and white.  The colors may  look
  67.              different  than  normal.  Don`t panic.  The  game  is  still
  68.              good.  Play as normal.

  71.         CUSTOM COLOR DEPTH ENHANCEMENT (CODE)
  72.  
  73.         This is a new feature of the 32768-color Windows 3 driver,   that
  74.         eliminates color irregularities resulting from the conversion  of
  75.         a  24-bit  color  drawing  to  15-bit  (32768-color).   CODE   is
  76.         automatically invoked when loading a 24-bit color drawing.
